Here's a bead I've not seen before, from a recent purchase of a strand of old trade beads. It's clear with white stripes that are under an outer clear layer. Appears to be broken and / or roughly ground down on both ends. The bead is 20 mm long and 13 mm diameter at the widest part. The hole is about 2.5 mm.

Any ideas about it? An early design of "gooseberry" bead?

Thanks Stefany - I did not notice it was hollow - the walls are quite thick, but this explains the strange bulbous shape.

Looking forward to seeing your examples - and any ideas you may have about age & origin.

well these arent striped but are blown+drawn clear thick-walled glass, with ridges or grooves and threaded as prayer- or worry beads, the spacer-discs, and the Imam tassel bead here are not bulbous but actually moulded i think, but the beads must surely be related to yours?
i have no very clear idea of age. the knot for the tassel has a middle-east appearance.
