To have an idea of the original colours I soaked the bead in water.

I recollect some Yugoslavian (?) archaeological group restoring the colors of decomposed glass beads with JADE polyvinylacetate - a non-toxic whitish glue that bookbinders use for conservation purposes, sort of like a casein glue for wood but without being susceptible to bacterial attack. Dries translucent. Supposedly reversible in water - i.e., one can soak it out if need be.

with small coral beads, knotted between the coral. The largest bead is 24 x 18 x 5mm, the length is 27". I enjoy their translucence!

I found two small bags of millies in a local antique store, $40 for both. I knew there were some broken and chipped ones, but when I opened them, I was dismayed how many 'bad' ones there were. Then I laid them out and found out I didn't do so badly after all. Five good ones, and I was able to glue a full green millie and 2 'quarters' back together. I also really like how they look with two very small hanks of new 'aged' Picasso Czech beads....

Love this set of seven smaller millies. Great shape!
Also, is that a little green king bead? (the one with stripes)

Some sweet smaller beads, but all these bigger millies are badly chipped.

This has come up before, I know, but wondering if anyone on the forum has come up with good ideas for broken/chipped millefiores? I would happily donate mine, OR even more happily, trade for smaller, simpler Prosser-type beads (ovals, rounds, 'rosary' beads, heishi, etc.) Or can they be ground down on the edges, to smooth out the sharp & uneven edges?? I have a Foredom bench lathe, though I mostly use it for buffing....

Uwe, for example, in Germany has shown superb examples of reground millefiori beads. I think he started with minimal equipment. Also, at one time he showed us a good-sized frame for a painting (or was it a mirror?) that he decorated with broken trade beads, where there was still one pretty side.....he glued them all down as desired, filled in the spaces with grout, and painted when dry.....he then saved their beauty and repurposed!

...over the years I got kilos of broken beads, much more, than I have time, to work with...
Right now I´m sitting at the airport in Agadir, waiting for my flight back to Germany. I did 4 of these frames, for myself and for friends... Morocco is very green right now, after some rain during the winter. The image is from a trip through the mountains near Mirleft.

I put them in glass vases, small dishes, and just enjoy the lovely colors. Pretty in sand "therapy" gardens with those little mini rakes. Of course, no monetary value, but pretty nonetheless.

Found this in a draw the other day. It's an unfinished piece from when I had my retail store 15+ years ago. I used to do a lot of silver wire work back then. All by hand just a wire cutter and needle nose pliers.

Hi John,
I like it!
Tell me how you did the necklace part - it looks possibly like bead crochet, shading purple into black?
