NEED HELP ON THIS

I know that this is not a bead but I am posting this ring because there are experts on the forum that know far more than beads.

I recently purchased this ring mainly because of the stone in it. After I received it I could see that the metal work was hand made. Being hand made and stamped .925 it reenforced my feeling that I just might have the stone I thought this stone to be “Jadeite”. I know that there are those on the planet that prefer silver over gold, a category which my daughter belongs to. So perhaps this ring was made for just such a person.

I tested the stone and know that it is stone not glass, I was going to take the stone from its setting but because it is handmade decided that this might be a major mistake. I would be most interested in hearing from you, your opinions on where you think this metal work may have been done.

I have a place where I can send this in and have it tested to see if in fact it is Jadeite (I hope) if and when I do I will let all of you know the results.

Thank you in advance for your comments.

All my best ............... Danny

Danny, not taking the stone from the ring before ID might not give accurate results. There are such things as jadeite triplets and hollow cabochons that would be concealed by the mounting.

In other words, if someone slaps this onto a refractometer, gets a jadeite reading, and eliminates calcite, some problems could still remain.

Scroll to the bottom of Dick Hughes'article, where he discusses various ways people monkey with jade.

Right now I am trying to find out about the silver work, if in fact I decide to have the cab tested I will carefully unseat it and send it to Jeff at Mason and Kaye.

I checked out the link real fast and will for sure read it, I am always interested in things Jade and have been for the better part of my lapidary life. I was lucky enough to go to a preview at Sotheby's HK in 1987. Handled more than a few of the items but did not get to fondle the strand of beads that sold for over one million USD. I would guess this same strand is now worth 8 to 10 million.

All my best ....... Danny
