Anybody? Was told the beads are Pony Beads, other than that any feed would be greatly appreciated... Thanks Roseanna!
Typically, the name pony bead refers to larger beads, 5 to 8mm or so. It usually refers to beads larger than "E" beads. "Crow" beads and "Pony" are sometimes considered the same. These names are not terribly exact.
I would call the beads used large seed beads.
The cowrie shells look like Pacific cowrie, as in from the Philippines rather than ones from Africa.
The Pacific cowrie / Phillipine connection would seem to fit with the decoration of the blade, which looks Southeast Asian / Islamic in character . . .
Thank you so much for the input. Does anybody have any ideas as to age?
I have no idea. With something like this, the beadwork, the blade, and the handle can all be different ages. Older blades are often kept in working circulation, particularly in small-scale societies.
Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback.
