I am passing this disturbing news along from BeadsL, posted there by Valerie Hector.

"I just heard from a friend that the Illinois State Museum facilities are in danger of being closed due to budget cuts promoted by Governer Rauner.

As many of you know, the Illinois State Museum is home to the Dan Frost collection of bead sample cards. It's one of the smaller collections but still important to our community.

As far as I know, no announcements have been made as to where the cards would go if the museum were closed.

Below is what my friend sent in his email. "

"There are many ways that you can make your opinion heard. Presently the closure is up for public comment through the state. Links are below.

There is currently a MoveOn petition up. This of course asks you to sign up to MoveOn, which you can unsubscribe from later.

What would happen if one or more serious bead collectors approached the Illinois State Museum about a private purchase of the Frost Collection? Rather than wait for them to donate it to some other museum that will bury it and, who knows, sell it out the back door at a later date.....Maybe members of our own community can become curators of this important collection and defy the trend to drive these collections into possible obscurity through museum closures.

Joyce , tried to contact you via mail author and couldn't do; hence my post about an old post. Is the Frost collection available to view on line? If not I was fortunate to be able to photograph most if not all twenty years ago. Jake said my photographs magnify well. TechieI am not, but I would love to send them to you, if David would be generous enough with his time to offer them in the BCN forum.
Otherwise, this bead sample group is another way to document beads and will hopefully be kept intact and available, at least on line.
Trying not to lurk and be more active-
