Aunt Louisa's beads are again ready to swing!

Awhile back I came by these in the local antique collective. The owner of this strand (a lady somewhere in her 70s, I believe) happened to be in that day - they had belonged to her Aunt Louisa who brought them with her when she moved from England. She remembers her aunt wearing them.

Finished restringing them recently, what a relief. The old yellowed cotton was starting to shred. Had to use a bead reamer on dozens of the smallest ones, to remove what looked like mandrel release dust. Used black "S-Lon", bigger than "C-Lon". Single knots for all the smalls, double knots for the rest, with a singed triple knot at the very bottom. Strand length is 58".

I like the style. A similar one would be difficult to make today, as most sources don't bother to carry firepolish Czech glass in 9 sizes in the same color. Smallest are about 5mm, largest is about 14mm. I'm fond of this jadeite green, sure to fluoresce under black light. The color is very hard to capture. Does anyone know what this sort of long graduated strand style is called? It looks neat doubled around with a casual knot at the front.

Would love to see what others have created or redone recently for their own enjoyment.

Wow Joyce, very nice knotting, I'm jealous! My daughter can hand-knot like that, but I haven't developed the patience or skill yet, it is on my to-do list.

I would call the strand style a sautoir, the definition of which is: a ribbon, chain, scarf, or the like, tied around the neck in such a manner that the ends cross over each other. It also could be called a 'flapper necklace', being a good length and of the 1920s - 30s era.
Love the color, very striking. I wish I could come up with a way to market these to young ladies, how fun would these be in a club under black light?

Here's a fun necklace of "baby teardrops" that I separated from a number of strands of multi-color Czech wedding beads. These were the colors and patterns I liked the best. The necklace looks a little like a flower lei when worn.

I like your "electric green" Czech glass necklace, Joyce!

These beads are a lot of fun to wear...I made a long multi-color strand of the little skinny ones.

Could this also be called a "Lariat?"...I have often thought that long girly necklaces celebrate the kinetic effect of beads.

While I know black isn't the traditional color for cord in this context, it looks really good against a black shirt.
