Awhile back I came by these in the local antique collective. The owner of this strand (a lady somewhere in her 70s, I believe) happened to be in that day - they had belonged to her Aunt Louisa who brought them with her when she moved from England. She remembers her aunt wearing them. Finished restringing them recently, what a relief. The old yellowed cotton was starting to shred. Had to use a bead reamer on dozens of the smallest ones, to remove what looked like mandrel release dust. Used black "S-Lon", bigger than "C-Lon". Single knots for all the smalls, double knots for the rest, with a singed triple knot at the very bottom. Strand length is 58". I like the style. A similar one would be difficult to make today, as most sources don't bother to carry firepolish Czech glass in 9 sizes in the same color. Smallest are about 5mm, largest is about 14mm. I'm fond of this jadeite green, sure to fluoresce under black light. The color is very hard to capture. Does anyone know what this sort of long graduated strand style is called? It looks neat doubled around with a casual knot at the front. Would love to see what others have created or redone recently for their own enjoyment.
