the metal cup shapes with soldered plain or twisted wire cloisons- i have some in very similar taste, and the necklace style with chain and central dangle, all appear to be Moroccan work. if not very old, at least "Traditional".
After someone privately questioned whether these were actually phenolic resin beads, I removed one from the necklace and did the hot water test, and got the telltale odor of phenol. Also, the holes are drilled, not molded in.
I'm not very familiar with the timeline of phenolic beads after the inter-war period, so I don't know how to date these. There are a lot of surface scratches so they've "been around".
Hi Rosanna, I bought caps like those at a silversmith's workshop in Tunisian in 1996.
I made a similar necklance with the caps and different beads when I learned wirework a few years later. Piece may be composed by budding beader 20+ years ago. Nice, whatever the age. Paula
Thanks, Paula!
I just saw a necklace with somewhat similar caps on eBay - which featured a few wheel-shaped phenolic beads, and the seller said it was from Morocco, ca. 1960's.
So, it appears the cap design is from N. Africa, and the overall design either N. African or a "tribute" to the styles of that region.
I appreciate the feedback!
