They show a clear resemblance to me to these newly made Indonesian bead. This picture was taken at the Amsterdam ethnic bead fair a few weeks ago at the table of the Beadbrothers. They import pretty much all their beads from Indonesia.
Some of these beads do copy an ancient beads or a vintage beads, other are more 'liberal' interpretations.
To me, they look like they could be inspired by this one in the left hand corner of this image on Pinterest.
and thanks for your analysis, Floor! I am new enough to bead collecting that it seems like beads are popping up all over now that are hard to identify, and posts like these are extremely important!
If I get the time, I will go over to the Beadbrothers sometime soon and photograph all of their recent replicas. Could be a valuable collection.
Hi Wayne, what you are showing is the latest in copies from Indonesia, I am showing the original beads and the older Kiffa copies here, Callmer did a nice pictorial on some of these types found in Viking settings
Just came in the mail from the Bead Brothers.....this copy of the Warring State bead from the Shanghai glass museum exhibit I visited earlier this year.
I don't think anyone would be fooled by this one just yet, but considering this is apparantly a first prototype of the replica......
Collectors often want their ancient beads to be clean and
in perfect condition. But, washing and repairing ancient beads
may be a mistake because it makes old beads look new.
The Warring States bead on the right in Floor's post
appears to be new also. But it is not a new bead.
The problem is: Inexperienced AND advanced collectors
become suspicious that excellent antique examples may
be copies when old beads have little or no patina.
Just Fred
they are 100% sure iNdonesian beads, made recently.
price retail about 35 euro per strand....
