this is a great bead Thomas and it appears to be well worn and treasured. I love beads like this. I have one that I would not sell, it is as Danny would say, an 'old dog'. If Danny reads this post I'm wondering if you can identify the material. The blueish green part is transluscent and has a high sheen that I've tried to show in the first picture. It measures 34mm x 28mm. It was found in Mali.

Wonderful bead Thomas and so is yours Judy. Judy your bead looks like it might be made of common opal, if I could see it in person I might change that opinion.

Here is one of my newer favorites it is a Wonderful Tairona agate bead 500 to 1500.31.9mm long 13.4mm diameter, I recently got more than a few Tairona beads and am in the process of photographing them for our new website. The second image is Super Tairona quartz bead 500 to 1500.
28.8 long 15.7mm diameter.

Again great beads lets hope Thomas has started a long thread devoted to "oldie" stone beads.

All my best ..... Danny

I didn't think of opal, that would make sense. Your Tairona beads are great, I especially like the crystal bead. Here is a monster from my treasure box measuring 34mm in length and 39mm in width, origin Mali. I could post stone beads for hours but need to get some work done. cheers, Judy
