Wonderful bead Thomas and so is yours Judy. Judy your bead looks like it might be made of common opal, if I could see it in person I might change that opinion. Here is one of my newer favorites it is a Wonderful Tairona agate bead 500 to 1500.31.9mm long 13.4mm diameter, I recently got more than a few Tairona beads and am in the process of photographing them for our new website. The second image is Super Tairona quartz bead 500 to 1500. 28.8 long 15.7mm diameter. Again great beads lets hope Thomas has started a long thread devoted to "oldie" stone beads. All my best .....
