Hi. I appreciate all help shown me so far on this forum. I need an advise on this necklace as I am not very familiar with dating old beads. In my believe this necklace is old. It looks like it is stung on some kind of hair(maybe horse?). Spacers seem to be made out of sterling silver. Can you please tell me how old is this necklace, what those beads are made out of and where this necklace might have been made? Thank you in advance.

The orange barrels with eye designs are glass Venetian beads, dated late 1800's - early 1900's. The small, almost round creamy white beads are wound, glass beads from the same era, probably Venetian as well, but certainly from Europe. The green, blue and yellow "slices" appear to be recycled glass beads from West Africa - I'm not 100% sure.

The string seems to me to be an ordinary twine (I think made from hemp) that was common in hardware stores here in the US ever since I was a child in the 1950's.

I think your necklace was strung from Venetian and African beads (and some metal spacers) sometime in the 1960-1980 time frame. Possibly even more recently.

Where did you find this necklace?

Hi. Thank you for the nice and detailed message. I found this necklace on a flea market mixed with other pieces of preowned jewelry. I got it for 3$
