As I go through my huge stash of old stone beads and organize them into groups I find a group now and again that stands out. The images below are to me extra special in shape and technique.

Any information on this type bead is most welcome as I am most curious as to their origin.

All my best ........... Danny

Largest bead 14.4mm in diameter 13.3mm long
Smallest bead 11.5mm in diameter 10.3mm long

All seem to be made of jasper.

I have a lot of these beads, they were found in a dig outside Mopti, Mali. I don't know where they were made, but so many stone beads found in Mali originated in India. Some of the beads date to 4,000 BC. I thought they were were agate though????

Love the waxy look of your collection, Danny, and those textured brick red ones of yours, Judy.
I forgot, did you mention what size these are, Judy? The same as Danny's? I'm not familiar with either ones, the carnelian nor the jasper varieties.

Judy,
The beads you post in the first image are very close, they seem to be made of carnelian in general. The beads I posted are in fact similar but the main reason for my post is my beads are jasper. I have more than a few beads like yours and when I compare how they were made as opposed to how the jasper beads were made it makes me wonder.

Thank you for your feedback and the wonderful images you posted. I also have quite a few of the beads in your second image and think they are precursors to the type you and I posted and perhaps by as much as 1500 to 2000 years"just a guess on my part."

Thank you again ... All my best .... Danny

I thought they were agate also. Here's a necklace I made with similar beads which also included Carnelian and glass. Thanks
