Still beads......

From one bead place, Tucson, on to the next bead place: New Orleans during Mardi Gras!

Never really planned to this way, but we sure are having fun.

The beads used to be Czech glass beads, then Japanese, and now Chinese plastic. Most are the ones that are melted on thread, so you can not unstring them. However, sometimes there are 'real' plastic beads in the mix.

Yesterday was the parade of the Krew of Toth. Many of the beads they threw were Egyptian inspired. So now, I have a whole set of my very own 'Egyptian revival beads' ;-)

I hope you did not have to raise your shirt to get them!

During the day, the festivities are very family friendly. At the parades, the beads get tossed to anyone who will raise their hand. You actually have to be careful not to get hit in the head with them. Especially towards the end of the parades, the beads get tossed by the bag or the bundle. Even though they are plastic, they get pretty heavy!

We will be heading for NY tomorrow morning. We had so much fun in New Orleans. The atmosphere is very laid back, even in the large intoxicated crowds.

Also, never knew there was such a variety in Chinese crappy plastic beads ;-)
Also got my hand on some vintage Czech Mardi Gras beads and some of the Indian/Chinese glass beads that are still thrown from parades, albeit not very often.

Peter was a very good 'bead mule'.

When they cleaned up the streets, I got to stand on my very own pile of beads!

Floor it looks like you two had a good time and got plenty of loot! Maybe next time you'll be able to stop by and make some beads with me. I had to work the weekend before and on "Fat Tuesday" but here are some beads I made that Monday before Mardi Gras which are now on their way to a new owner and I've a few bundles of the Czech glass Mardi Gras beads and this is how they were bundled, 2 dozen in Czech stamped tissue. There are even some pink "shampoo" glass beads in this bundle. :)

Charles,
Thank you for showing your Czech "throw beads", and your lovely beads remind me of Van Gogh's "Starry Night".

Charles, thanks again for inviting me. It would have been fun to make beads together. Love the beads you show. Like Joyce writes, they are very reminiscent of Van Gogh.
Hope to make it back to New Orleans!
The Czech beads are fun too. Looks like they took fairly random beads and strung them together for this purpose. I found a few more in New Orleans, and will show them when I get back.
Right now I am in NYC. One more week, and it is back to work!
