I asked this a few years ago. I went with this case of drawers with the small felt inserts for my loose beads. still haven't found perfect solution for strands

I have two of their mini storage cubes. They are not glamorous - laminate over particle board, with plastic drawers - but they hold a large number of strands and necklaces. I made felt drawer liners myself for these.

Not bad....right now I'm using clear plastic totes w/ a layer of brown paper on the bottom, then a layer of strands, then paper, then strands, etc.....this way they don't scratch each other. If you use the brown paper bags from the grocery store they fit just about right plus create a double layer for more protection.

I use clear plastic divider boxes from Fire Mountain, which fit 3 to a drawer in these new Chinese cabinets from a local art & antique show. On the top of the right-hand cabinet is my little shrine to Uncle Russ.

What I keep planning on doing, although I haven't yet, is to use some East Indian designs around the 4 walls of our bedroom & incorporate nails/hangers as part of the paisley/flowery designs. Then hang my strands (other than silver) all around my room. Unfortunately I wish I could display my silver that way, but it will tarnish so quickly so I'll continue to keep those in baggies in my containers. I've purchased some wonderful books of design & patterns (These could be designs taken off of saris, or traditional Chikankari embroidery designs, decorative patterns and ornamental motifs, varied embellishments from authentic sources such as jewelry or batik, wood blocks, etc). Even those wonderful henna designs used on women's hands and legs. They all work perfectly & I think will really show off my beads. That's just what would work for me so I could see & enjoy my items every day! Lynne

I hired a friend to make my bead table. First I tracked down a old type tray to store my singles. I had my friend design around the loose bead tray. Underneath the bead tray are 3 storage compartments for the strands. It was important for me to get some bead satisfaction of being able to look at the beads easily and not have them packed away. This table holds 90% of the beads I own! -Matt

Hi Matt, I have a friend who would like to ask you to show a close-up if possible of the beads in the 10th compartment down on the left side of your lovely bead table. To others asking about storage, if you check the archives we have discussed this issue several times in the past. I recall seeing some great examples of bead storage ideas. Myself, I still use glass top jewelry display cases and a lot of zip lock bags. Though fragile items usually get stored in smaller glass top display boxes. see pics below. Jan Skipper, Mosquitobay

Check out this item number on Ebay for some great metal storage cabinets, originally used for micro fiche storage. Paul

Sorry for being late to this particular party -- but I've been lusting after a converted flat file for years, and finally found one a couple of months ago. Of course, my beads vastly exceed the storage capacity.... but it helps! Abe @ Beadstore.com
