A wonderful package, all the way from Mor from Thailand, with a necklace of small blue glass beads, and a fascinating etched carnelian bead with 4 holes. It is my first etched carnelian bead, and I also love the small glass ones. When looking at them in bright light, they are all different shades of blue. Anybody who would be able to narrow down the period and location a bit more for me on the carnelian bead?

Dear Floor, I don’t sure you get an email from me or not. For some information about the necklace, they come from Burma. It designs by my friend in Thailand. The etched carnelian bead is special four holes. The line patterns like this meet in Burma more than Thailand. The blue glass beads are Indo-Pacific Trade-wind Beads, we meet blue glass beads like this on many archaeology place in Southeast Asia. About age of them, It is difficult to determine the age because the beads like this pattern made for long time in Burma but I believe it should about 800-1,000 years. Please pardon me for my poor English.
Thank
Mor

We all know Uwe is such an outstanding Beadgrinder -- but now I want to share this with my fellow Forumites: he is an extremely openhanded one too.
After longtime admiring his work on the screen, I am finally able to experience the feel in my hand of some (i.e. more than one) of his beads.
Thank you, Uwe.

I just received a wonderful assortment of lovely African trade beads. And I really like the glass circlets. At first I thought they were bracelets, but then I remembered seeing things like these on top of Chinese sewing baskets, with Peking glass beads....?? Would love to know more.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Logan!!

(This post is from June, 2010) Yesterday we picked up 400 antique (or nearly so) Chinese glass bangles in original packaging. It's the most I've ever seen at one time. These are a lovely translucent berry color. These, along with the beads that used to adorn the Chinese sewing baskets that were imported to the U.S. in the early 20th century, have long been referred to as "Peking Glass". It's been discussed here before in great detail that this is not an accurate name.... The manufacturer of these particular rings was Kwong Yick in Canton. In 1918 Canton was renamed Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. Rings a bell, doesn't it?! TONS of new material comes from this location today.

Thank you for posting this. I wouldn't have remembered the story. I wanted to wear them as bangles, but feared they would break. I still have several of the smaller ones I got from you; considering earrings, Christmas tree décor, and then decided to just keep them on my work table as décor. Luann (like most of us) is an artist and I hoped she would enjoy them. ;)

I do really like them! I, too, thought about using them as bracelets they are so cool with their labels, I might just frame them or hang them on the wall!

One of the reasons that I love old and ancient beads (among other old and ancient things) is
that they often have a fine PATINA. My gift of old Islamic beads was described by santa(s) as
being well-worn and this is what makes them especially beautiful. Some of them are already
"strung" on a bead stand in the midst of other old and ancient beads. Happy New Year to my Santas and to all of the BCN family, Santas and non-Santas alike. Terry

A special thank you to my "not so secret" santa, Wesley!
The yellow jackets will soon be placed on my rendezvous necklace, and proudly worn next month! The beautiful little blues may have to go into the next "wife" project, as I can't keep them out of her hands. The African trade beads are always welcome, and the pidgeon eggs are new to me, and will be fun to work into some of my other Czech stash!
Thanks so much!
Cheers, Jeff I'd added a photo, but need to go and resize the bugger! j
