if they were indian (or turkish) the middles would be rather black.
Chinese is rather more likely-
I have bought fairly similar ones in Syria about 8 years ago. Not completely the same, but the general shape and style could be Middle Eastern?
Thank you all for the information.
and I agree their color make them even more wonderful. Are these newer beads? Lynne
I don't know their age. They were on eBay, labeled Peking glass (and purchased today not by me); but in my opinion (and that can be taken with a grain of salt because I'm not knowledgeable about beads) they appear different than the fabulous early melon Peking glass beads that were / are still pictured in the gallery section of the forum.
Needless to say, I love melon beads too.
I purchased these yellow beads believing them to be Peking glass. I think they look a bit different from the turquoise melon beads (in the original post in this thread) in the area around the holes and the way the lobes (or indentations between the lobes) were made.
This necklace with gorgeous melon beads was just posted on EarthlyAdornments.com / Etsy; the description follows:
"Vintage necklace of old Chinese glass melon beads and crystal glass spacers. (nlbd1135)
This is a necklace of fabulous teal Peking glass beads. They're old, hand made, full of bubbles. Necklace is hand knotted on silk thread with tiny crystal glass spacers. Sterling silver box clasp with a clear stone. this is a European or American necklace, but I believe the beads are old Chinese. 33 inches in length.
• Vintage item from the 1920s"
Once upon a time I stumbled across a Czech website that had a picture of some of these green melon beads. Can I find this site now? Alas, no.
I don't think these are Chinese.
