Looks to me like a furnace wound glass bead, made in India in the last 20 or thirdy. Black beads are often more difficult to identify from a picture, so maybe I am missing some signs of age?

Because I question whether this may be an a new or old bead, it reminds me of old beads I have cleaned.
Sometimes after cleaning, GENUINE ancient beads look like they may be recent reproductions.

I usually feel that I can tell the difference between ancient beads and recent copies.
But this is not easy to learn or teach to others -especially when
the surface has been stripped of its patina.

Just Fred

Hi Maxbead,
here's a broken bead collected between 1960-70 in Iran.
I can't date it, but it looks like a very old one.
Diam x height - perforation = 16 x 12 -7 mm.

It has some resemblance with your bead.
