Hello All;

As many of the long time members will remember. Before I learned how to use a digital camera. I used my scaner to scan my beads so I could post here on the forum. A few years back. I had computer problems and thought I had lost most of scans from the year 2004. Late last night I stumbled on a strange file. I opened it and Oh My Goodness Gracious! 2004 scans! So I chose two of my favorites from the month of May to share with you all.

Enjoy
Sincerely
Thomas Mercer

But what is that,upper left corner, red and white, half circle, and similar under the red Talhakimt...?? And I love the shape of the two chevrons, yellow, white, blue from the second image! I still have a cane from the Picards, and will try the long version (not the dog bone shape). Anyway...thanks for posting this! Have a great weekend!

...that inspired me to rework beads, broken millefiori first and then Chinese chevrons. Special thanks to Thomas S., who sent the first Chinese Chevrons, and Joyce, who sent Chinese canes, these black and white, not long ago, and Joy, who sent an Art Seymour cane, and the Picards, who sent more than one time beautiful old Venetian canes...! Thankfully you are all my sponsors!

Thank you, Joyce! I love to work with the old Venetian canes and make "traditional" shapes, oval and round beads, but with these large Chinese canes much more shapes are possible and my fantasy becomes wings... :-)

Not sure, if I have shown these before...ground from Venetian 1950s beads.

...if you add “…amateurs” at the end of your sentence, it would be more real...you, Art, Rick, Alan and others are still my examples for profession, perfection and creativity and it would take another life, just to come closer to that. I am still learning by doing and have a lot of fun this way, “playing” with shapes and layers, in glass and stone, and often enough I´m surprised like a child by the results (like this agate)...working with beads and canes is the perfect counterpart to my job as a social worker, where the results are only to see in a review over years, if any...
But of course I feel flattered by a nice feedback of my masters and I will sleep very well this night... :-)

Hi Thomas

Your pictures from scaner are very beautifull.

Can I ask which scaner did you use?
Which maker,Which model?

Oh and I'd like to ask how to make black back-groud when you scan if you don't mind.

Hello shinji;

The scanner was manufactured by the Canon Conpany. I do not remember the model number of the scanner. To make the back ground black. I worked in a darkend room with the lid of the scanner open. You could use a black cloth over the scanner if want to get the same affect.

Now that I have learned how to use a digital camera. I have the freedom to do so much more. With the help of PHOTOSHOP there is almost no limit to what I can do.

Good Luck
Sincerely
Thomas Mercer

scanner for imaging

Hi Shinji

I use a scanner for all my pictures. The trick Thomas described of imaging with the cover off and in a low light room works real well.
The only issue is if the glass is not real clean or scratch free it shows up.
Currently I am using a Epson Perfection V33 for my scanner.

Nuance PaperPort for my imaging software and DzSoft Quick Image Resizer to resize my pictures as needed.
Hope this helps

Wayne

I use Canon scaner(about 7years old).
But I feel that pictures of both of you are better than mine.
It may be time to change it.

Anyway I try the way you told me.
I expect it works well for me also.

Thank you very much!

Shinji
