Original Message:   Most-Likely—Afghanistan
June 2022.

Now, some years later, it would be a realistic proposition to say this bead was made in Afghanistan, perhaps as early as about 2008—based upon my first exposure to new glass beads from Afghanistan (pursued elsewhere, here, in a Forum reply—also dated June 2022).

The bead itself copies a fairly rare Islamic Period combed bead, of which I have seen two specimens. (The first one I saw was much better than the second one—and is a bead I documented in the 1980s from Afghanistan, in a private American collection.)

I would be the first one to say there are strong similarities between current Javanese beads, beads suspected to be "from Syria," and the recent Afghan beads. So there is still some sorting to pursue. And we cannot just hit on the "It's Javanese" bandwagon, that I, myself, have been used to doing, until recent years.
