Original Message:   help with identifying plastic-like bead material
hi, I've been lurking for a few months waiting until I have something interesting to ask about and here it is...I got it in a box of bakelite and other plastic jewelry from an estate sale...it was all fairly old stuff, nothing newer than 60s I tested these and they aren't bakelite. I'm hoping someone may recognize them. The way the plastic has been layered is remarkable I think, they're really cool looking! Some of the purple areas have a filmy sparkle in them. Some layers are opaque and some are translucent. Where the opaque meets the clear you can sometimes see where they dive into the bead if that makes any sense. They're very large, 22mm in diameter and some are up to 33mm long. There are no mold lines, and the sizes vary, so I'm guessing something carved, maybe galalith? Anyway, interested to here what you think.
