I received an inquiry about a strand of these beads I have on offer, and referred him to Augusto Panini's website - http://www.glass-beads.it/venetian/details_06.html Also mentioned that the term "French Ambassador" was a misnomer, from a mistaken belief that these beads were used in the North American fur trade.
